Name that City! — March 4, 2021
Here’s a review of the questions:
Can you identify the city in which each of these writers was born?
- F. Scott Fitzgerald
- T.S. Eliot
- Thomas Wolfe
Here are the answers:
- St. Paul, MN—Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, to an upper-middle-class family. Extra points if you knew that he was named after his second cousin, Francis Scott Key, best known for writing the lyrics for the American national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
- St. Louis, MO—The preeminent poet of “The Waste Land” was born at 2635 Locust Street. He returned to the city after finding fame, saying about St. Louis: “It is bigger and all that sort of thing, but it is still the St. Louis I knew.”
- Asheville, NC—Wolfe was born in 1900. He enrolled in the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill at the mere age of 15. By all accounts, he made quite a mark there.
