Name that City! — May 7, 2020
Welcome back! We hope you are enjoying Name that Flyover City!
Here’s a review of the questions:
- The Moondog Coronation Ball is generally considered the first major rock and roll concert. In what city was it held?
- The War at Home is a 1979 documentary about the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War. What city did it focus on?
- In 1978, Sid Vicious played at a venue in this city. Vicious left a memento that the owners made into an attraction. What city did this happen in and what’s the memento?
And here are the answers:
- Cleveland, OH—The Moondog Coronation Ball was organized by Alan Freed, the disc jockey who popularized the term “rock and roll.” The concert featured Paul Williams and the Hucklebuckers, and Tiny Grimes and the Rocking Highlanders (an African American instrumental group that appeared in kilts). Also on the bill were the Dominoes, Varetta Dillard and Danny Cobb.
- Madison, WI—The War at Home combines archival footage and interviews with participants that explore the events of the period on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus.
- Tulsa, OK—When the Sex Pistols played at Cain’s Ballroom in 1978, Vicious punched a hole in the wall. instead of fixing the hole, the owners placed a frame around it. Touring musicians often take selfies with it.
Thanks for playing Name that Flyover city!
