  2. Cleveland, OH—Cleveland was the first city in the United States to successfully demonstrate electric lighting, with twelve electric lights around the Public Square road system on 29 April 1879.
  3. St. Louis, MO—The first Olympics in the U.S. was located at what is now known as Francis Field on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis. It was the first time that the Olympic Games were held outside Europe.
