Life sciences incubator will receive $1M grant
PITTSBURGH, PA–LifeX, a life sciences incubator established by the University of Pittsburgh, will receive a $1 million grant from the Angel Investment Venture Capital Program that aims to attract and encourage early-stage financing for businesses in the state. The grant involves two LifeX entities, both of which are owned by the University of Pittsburgh and are designed to work together to increase the likelihood of success for companies in their portfolio.
University of Memphis’ 2022 research proposals
MEMPHIS, TN–At the end of 2021, the University of Memphis gained R1 status from the Carnegie Classifications of Institutions of Higher Education. This designates that the school meets benchmarks in research activity and expenditures. Universities selected must retain the ranking every year. According to U of M’s latest annual research report, 213 principal investigators submitted research proposals in FY 2022, a record for the institution. These proposals ultimately helped the U of M earn $49.38 million in total research awards in FY 2022.
University of Louisville launches manufacturing resource center with $13M
LOUISVILLE, KY–The University of Louisville will use $13 million awarded from the U.S. Department of Commerce to launch a new manufacturing resource center. The Kentucky Manufacturing Extension Partnership, to be located in the university’s Office of Research and Innovation, will use university expertise and capacity to provide research, business development, and access to talent in order to help manufacturers boost productivity, retain and create jobs, and compete in new markets here and abroad.
Support for NC State’s entrepreneurial community
RALEIGH, NC–In 2022, the nonprofit Heartland Forward ranked North Carolina State University second among all U.S. public universities in research technology transfer and commercialization. Now, the Wolfpack Investor Network (WIN), the university’s alumni-driven investor group, will partner with VC firm Harbright Ventures to enhance WIN member engagement, provide pre- and post-deal investment leadership, and increase support for the broader NC State entrepreneurial community.
